Qld: Govt rated 1 out of 5 for social policies

The Queensland government has been given a score of one out of five .. for its efforts
in addressing issues including poverty and homelessness.

The Queensland Council of Social Service will today release its rating of the government's
social policies .. in conjunction with its annual state budget submission.

QCOSS director JILL LANG has congratulated the government on several social programs
announced this year .. but says more money needs to be spent on preventions rather than
cures.

Ms LANG says more needs to be done to tackle key issues like poverty .. homelessness
.. child abuse .. and prison demographics.

And she says more funding's needed to improve the low rating for the social bottom line.
